402 'hotspot' schools come under police spotlight

BALIK PULAU (26/08/2017): Police have taken special measures to tackle the problems in 402 schools nationwide identified as “hotspots” for disciplinary and drugs problems.
Federal police Crime Prevention and Community Safety department deputy director Datuk Zainal Abu said the measures were implemented under the National Blue Ocean Strategy in co-operation with the Education Ministry.
“In our discussion with the education minister in June, we took a few immediate steps to tackle the problem, including focussing more on the ‘hotspot’ schools.
“We do not overlook other schools. It means we are paying more attention to the hotspot schools, so that the disciplinary and drug problems do not spread,” he told reporters at the opening of a youth summer camp here.
About 200 students from 10 schools in the state and Perlis participated in the programme.
Zainal said there were more than 10,000 policemen on duty as school liaison officers nationwide.
He said they ensured that the disciplinary problems were handled swiftly.
“We also deal with the parents so that they will allow their children with disciplinary problems to attend programme like this,” he said.
