MMEA deploys air unit to assist with search for missing angler near Dulang oil rig

KUALA TERENGGANU (27/07/2017): Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has deployed an air unit, Bombardier CL-415MP, to assist with a search and rescue operation of an angler who was reported missing last Sunday.
East Coast MMEA director First Maritime Admiral Datuk Mamu Said Alee said earlier, two MMEA's vessels, KM Jujur and KM Nusa together with the Royal Malaysian Navy’s KD Handalan were involved in the search and rescue operations.
He said a total of 90 enforcement officers were involved in the search operation.
“Our operation centre received a distress call about the incident at 4.30pm that an angler, Suhaimi Muhamad, 41, has slipped and fallen into the sea,” he said.
He said that the team will search within a 10 nautical miles radius of the Dulang oil rig.
So far, the SAR teams have not found any signs of the angler and the unpredictable weather paired with strong waves are hindering the search operation, he said.
On Sunday, Suhaimi from Kuala Lumpur went missing after falling off the fishing boat near the Dulang oil rig.
It was learnt that Suhaimi with 10 friends and three crew members departed from the Kampung Batin Seberang Takir jetty on Saturday.
