K T'ganu junkie botches snatch theft attempt; overpowered by victim

KUALA TERENGGANU (25/07/2017): A 31-year-old unemployed local man was arrested following a botched snatch theft here yesterday.
The man, who was riding a motorcycle, had attempted to snatch a gold chain from the neck of a 56-year-old man near a car park in Kampung China here at 8.30am.
The victim, however, managed to grab the suspect's hand during his attempt, causing him to lose his balance and fall from his motorcycle.
"The victim managed to capture the thief with the help of several people nearby, who then handed him over to policemen who were patrolling the area,” said District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar.
The man was taken to the Kuala Terengganu police station, where he tested positive for methamphetamine.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect has a criminal record of motorcycle theft.
He is being remanded until July 29 to assist in investigations under Section 392 of the Penal Code for theft.
Upon conviction, he could face a maximum sentence of ten years’ imprisonment and a fine.
