Woman gets warning about grandson’s death

GEORGE TOWN (30/06/2017): The grandmother of hotel staff M. Sathiwill, 20, claimed that she received a threatening call from an unknown person just 24 hours before he was found dead.
Identified only as Davi, the 60-year-old said the caller had asked whether she would be worried if her grandson died.
“The person put down the phone after telling me this.
“I rang Sathiwill after that and he told me he was safe. I never thought he would be gone the following day,” said Davi when met at Penang Hospital mortuary yesterday.
On Wednesday, Sathiwill was found murdered with his hands and legs bound with nylon rope at his rented flat in Rifle Range.
He was said to have been assaulted by a group of at least five attackers along the corridor outside the unit on the 16th floor.
The victim had rented a room in the unit with his brother about a month ago.
Sathiwill’s mother, known only as Gaydiri, 39, said she always reminded her son not to mix with the wrong people but he ignored her advice.
George Town Deputy OCPD Supt V. Saravanan said four people, including the 30-year-old unemployed woman tenant, have been remanded for six days to assist in the investigation.
He said the woman, who was tested positive for methamphetamine, was on the police wanted list for burglary.
She also has two other previous criminal records for murder and voluntarily causing hurt.
Supt Saravanan said the others were a 22-year-old contract worker, a bouncer, 21, and a 15-year-old school dropout. The bouncer also has a criminal record for theft.
