Six nabbed for buying air-cond units with bad cheques

IPOH (31/03/2017): Six men were arrested for buying air-conditioning units worth over RM35,000 from a shop here using bad cheques.
Perak Commercial Crime chief Superintendent Lee Ewe Kiong said the six, including two brothers, were arrested at different locations in Selangor.
He said the 37 air-conditioning units were also seized.
Supt Lee said that on Tuesday, a man drove a one-tonne lorry to the shop in Medan Song Choon on Jalan Sultan Nazrin Shah here to collect eight units of air-conditioners and handed a shop employee a cheque for RM7,520.
He said the same lorry driver returned to the shop later in the day to pick up six more units of air-conditioners, and handed over another cheque for RM8,154.
"At about 4.45pm the same day, another man, this time driving a three-tonne lorry, handed the worker a cheque for RM19,930 for 23 units of air-conditioners.
"However, the cheques bounced when the shop owner tried to cash them,” he told a press conference on Friday.
Supt Lee said the shop owner lodged a report and police took swift action to arrest the suspects, including two Bangladeshis, on Thursday.
Supt Lee said the lorry drivers would be made police witnesses as they were not involved in the scheme, and were only hired to collect the air-conditioners.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
The suspects are being remanded until Sunday.
