Telemarketing owner runs off with RM500,000, leaves behind angry customers, employees

KOTA BARU (25/02/2017): About 300 people who were cheated by a telemarketing firm dealing in foodstuff and household goods held a peaceful demonstration in front the company’s building at Tunjong here today.

The protesters, mostly petty traders and housewives began the demonstration at 3pm while holding the payment receipts that were given by the company.

Victim Abdullah Mohamad, 62, said he lost about RM10,000 after joining the scheme offered by the company early this year.

“The company’s owner has promised me and others that we will get profit of about RM800 in a month after investing in the scheme where we were only told to pack junk food.

We will later get the profit. “However, he has cheated us and has gone missing, along with our money,” said the sundry shop owner from Bachok. The company owner, a 47-year-old man who absconded with RM500,000 of the company’s money last week, left behind angry customers.

According to the company’s employees, they have not received their salary since early this year as well. They were also left behind to deal with frustrated clients, demanding for their money back.

Both the employees and the customers have lodged several reports to the police. The company is believed to have more than 500 employees at its four branches – two in Kota Baru and one each in Kuala Krai and Gua Musang.
