Police nab thieving couple active in T'ganu, Kelantan

MARANG (25/02/2017): A 32-year-old woman and her 29-year-old boyfriend, believed to be connected to several car break-in cases near a mosque’s compound in Marang, Kuala Terengganu and Kota Baru, Kelantan. 

The woman, from Kampung Raja, Besut has previous drug and theft offences, and her accomplice, from Kampung Kadok, Kelantan, were tested positive for amphetamines. 

State Criminal and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Hamzah said the couple was spotted smashing the windscreen of a car near a Merchang mosque in Marang, before carting away RM2,000 cash from the car on Feb 19. 

Abdul Aziz said following the victim’s report, the couple was arrested by a team of Marang policemen near a convenience store in Chabang Tiga, Kuala Terengganu on the following day at 2pm. 

Initial checks found several stolen items, which were reported missing, in the suspects’ Perodua MyVi. 

“Among the items seized were five handphones, 69 ATM cards, two tablets, a laptop, spanners and screw drivers as well as a purple Perodua MyVi, which was used in the incident,” he told reporters at the Marang police station today. 

“Initial investigation also showed that they were involved in eight car break-in cases in Kuala Terengganu, two cases in Marang and three cases in Kota Baru,” he said. Both suspects will be remanded at the Marang police station until Sunday. 

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for thefts.
