Four robbery cases solved with arrest of mastermind, 4 men

KOTA KINABALU (24/02/2017): Police have solved at least four robbery cases with the arrest of five men including the mastermind with a criminal record of 33 convictions.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra said the losses in the robbery cases here for the past two months amounted to some RM10,000.

“The young man, 25, was involved in 14 burglaries, 11 robberies, five drug-related offences, two fighting cases and a theft case between 2012 and 2017.

“The men were detained separately between Sunday and Wednesday in Kota Marudu, Tuaran, Telipok, and Likas,” he said during a press conference here.

Chandra added the arrests were made following Sunday’s armed robbery case at Taman Kingfisher near here.

In the 9am incident, two men in a blue Perodua Viva car stormed into a house and grabbed two handphones, a laptop and shoes from a teenage boy.

The 18-year-old, who was alone as his parents had gone to church, quickly locked himself in a room but the door was forced opened by the burglars.

Police tracked down and arrested the duo on Monday based on the details of the car used in robbery.

The investigation then led to the arrest of three others, as well as the recovery of stolen handphones and several items from previous robbery cases.

The police also confiscated the suspects’ cars. The remaining four suspects also have criminal records and all tested positive for drugs.

The five have been remanded for investigation under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery and armed robbery. If found guilty, the men will face a jail term of up to 20 years each and are liable to whipping on conviction.
