KLIA Customs confiscates RM749,000 worth of meth hidden in luggage of two Indian nationals

SEPANG (25/01/2017): The Royal Malaysian Customs Department has seized a total of 10.7 kilogrammes of methamphetamine worth RM749,000 at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) last Sunday.

Displaying the seizure at the KLIA Customs Cargo today, Datuk Hamzah Sundang, the director of KLIA Customs director said two Indian nationals in their fifties were arrested for bringing in the drugs.

The women flew to KLIA on Mas flight MH0181 at 7.45am on Jan 23. "Both women, aged 51 and 57, were found to be carrying a total of 5.35kg of drugs respectively in a special compartment inside their luggage during baggage scanning.

"Futher checking in the bags showed the drugs were cleverly packed inside black bags and screwed tightly to avoid opening," he told reporters during a press conference here today. He also said the drugs were meant to be sold in the local market, and not to be transitted to other countries.

Investigation also showed the two women have flown in and out of the country multiple times since June 2015. "Although we are not sure if they have brought in drugs before, but we don't not rule out the possibilities," he added.

Hamzah also believed the women belonged to the same syndicate as the type and amount of drugs were the same. "We also believe that a local syndicate is involved, however investigations were ongoing to confirm it," he added.

Both the women were investigated under‎ Section 39 (b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which could result in a capital punishment.
