Semi-automatic pistol with live bullets seized following probe into Kulim cafe brawl

ALOR STAR (29/12/2016): Police seized a semi-automatic pistol with 49 live rounds and an air pistol in separate raids at two houses in Kulim.

The firearms were seized in a follow-up operation over a brawl at a cafe in Kulim, which led police to the seizure of a revolver upon arresting a married couple and a woman recently.

Kedah deputy police chief Datuk Abd Jalil Hassan said, after interrogating the first man in custody, police raided a double-storey house in Tingkat Lorong Sekolah Convent about 7.30pm Tuesday.

"The raiding team seized a Glock semi-auto pistol and 49 live bullets bundled in a plastic bag which was stuffed among items outside the house," he told a press conference at the state police headquarters today.

Present was Kulim police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Assistant Superintendent Amir Atong@Atu.

Abd Jalil said following the seizure, police raided a terrace house in Taman Selasih about 3am the next morning, where they found an air pistol, two live bullets, a pair of handcuffs and a mask.

"The air pistol was buried in a shallow hole at the house compound. We subsequently detained another man, aged 32.

"Based on interrogation, we discovered that the man, who is also a drug trafficker, had been using the firearm for his own protection.

"Both men are close friends. Besides drug trafficking, we are also investigating them for possible involvement in other criminal and underworld activities," he said. Abd Jalil commended the Kulim CID team for their success in the firearms seizure.

It was reported that police had on Sunday seized a revolver during a raid at a house in Taman Seri Pinang, Kulim where they detained a 34-year-old man, his Thai wife, who works as a masseuse, and a local woman.

The pistol was found in a kitchen cabinet in the house. Following further search, police also found a bullet in a Proton Wira parked in front of the house.

The raid was carried out following a brawl at a cafe in Kulim a day earlier, where a man was pistol-whipped following an argument.
