Fingerprints of teen on rooftop in Shah Alam examined to probe burglary case

SHAH ALAM (31/12/2016): Police are comparing fingerprints found inside a burgled house in Section 13, Shah Alam with those of a teenager caught on a rooftop in the area on Tuesday.

This is being done to establish if the 17-year-old had committed a burglary before police found him perched on the roof of a double-storey house while responding to a home burglary call about 9am.

Shah Alam district police Criminal Investigation Department chief Deputy Superintendent Zawary Mahadi said police received a report on the burglary on the same day they nabbed the teenager, who hails from Alor Gajah, Malacca.

"The burgled house was near the location where the teen was arrested. The house owner reported losses of cash in foreign currency.

"However, police did not find any foreign currency when arresting the suspect, and he did not admit to committing any burglary.

Now we are waiting for the result of fingerprints comparison," said Zawary.

He said the teen was charged under Section 448 of the Penal Code for house-trespass yesterday (Thursday), and granted a bail of RM2,000.

"However, the teenager did not post bail and as he is a minor, the court ordered for him to be placed under detention at the Sekolah Tunas Bakti (correctional facility under the Welfare Department)."

On Tuesday, a police team responding to a home burglary call in Section 13 received a surprise when they found their suspect perched on the roof of a double-storey house.

It was reported that neighbours had around 9am spotted the teen on the roof, and suspecting that he could be up to no good, alerted the police.

A team of firemen from the Section 15 Fire and Rescue station was then summoned to the scene to bring the boy down, when he refused to come down.
