Bangladeshi man kidnapped, held for ransom, by four countrymen

KUALA LUMPUR (31/12/2016): Four Bangladeshi men are believed to have abducted a 30-year-old fellow Bangladeshi and demanded yesterday that the victim's brother pay RM25,000 in ransom to secure his release.

Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Azlin Sadari said the victim's 33-year-old brother, who is a cook at Bandar Sunway, lodged a police report over the abduction.

"The complainant said he received a call from an unknown Bangladeshi man at 1am, asking him to give RM25,000.

"The caller threatened to kill his brother by 5pm if he failed to cooperate," said Azlin. Perturbed by the call, the complainant contacted his brother to confirm the abduction.

"The victim picked up the call. He was frightened and crying, and told him that he had been tied up by several Bangladeshi men," added Azlin.

Acting on the complainant's report, police launched a manhunt and arrested the suspects in Subang Jaya yesterday.

Police also rescued the victim, who had been kept in a house at Jalan Mengkuang.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects abducted the victim because the victim's brother, the complainant, had promised to bring one of the suspects' two siblings to work in Malaysia.

The suspect said he had paid the victim's brother RM10,000 as a fee to bring his siblings to the country, but the victim's brother broke his promise.

The case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.
