Youth gets 2 months' jail for attempting to steal from surau's donation box


PETALING JAYA (26/11/2016): A 18-year-old unemployed youth was sentenced to two months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for attempting to steal from a donation box at a surau here last Tuesday.

 Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir handed down the sentence on Muhammad Saidina Mohd Asri, who pleaded guilty to the charge. 

Muhammad Saidina, together with a 14-year-old boy, were charged with attempting to steal money from a donation box at Surau Nurul Hidayah, Taman Batu 3, Jalan Berlian, Subang Jaya here at 2.45 am last Nov 22. 

The boy also pleaded guilty to the charge, but deputy public prosecutor Saphirra Selamat, who prosecuted, requested his case to be transferred to the Children’s Court as he was an under-age, and requested bail of RM1,000.

 Following which, the court set bail of RM500 on the boy and fixed Dec 15 for mention.--BERNAMA
