Police take bite off 'muruku gang,' arrest nine

SUBANG JAYA (26/11/2016): The notorious 'Muruku Gang', whose members masqueraded as muruku (Indian snacks) hamper delivery staff, found it had bitten off more than it could chew.
This followed a police blitz in which nine of the gang's members, including two women, were arrested in several raids this week.
With the arrests, the police expect to solve at least 10 robbery cases in the Klang Valley and Selangor committed over the past year.
Subang Jaya police deputy chief Supt Lee Swee Meng said the suspects, aged between 17 and 48, were remanded for seven days until Monday to facilitate investigations.
About 2.24am on Tuesday, he said the police raided a hotel in Puchong and detained two men before seizing two rental cars, believed to have been used in a robbery.
"In a tip-off that followed on the same day, we detained a couple and two men believed to be members of the gang in Petaling Utama and Taman Cuepacs, Kuala Lumpur.
"We also found mobile phones of different brands and jewellery in the second raid," he told a press conference.
A police team later raided a hotel in Jalan Klang Lama on Wednesday and detained the mastermind and his girlfriend.
Following interrogation of the couple, the police raided a house in Puchong Indah about 10.30pm and picked up a man.
"The gang normally masqueraded as 'muruku' hamper delivery staff  before barging into homes of potential victims and robbing them of their case and valuables." - Bernama
