GEORGE TOWN: A man was killed in a hit-and-run accident outside the Jelutong market here.

Neoh Peng Kay, 59, died on the way to the Penang Hospital following the 12.30pm incident yesterday.

A witness told police that the car sped off after knocking down the man, adding that the driver also hit a lorry parked by the roadside in his haste to flee.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid in a statement said several passers-by tried to give chase on foot but failed.

Neoh’s body was sent to the Penang Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated as reckless driving under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
