'Kabali' extras among three burglary gang members nabbed

PETALING JAYA: Three suspects, including two extras who appeared in the Indian movie Kabali, were arrested for burglary in Shah Alam.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat said Friday a task force arrested two members of a gang operating in Section 19, Shah Alam, at 12.30pm on Oct 13.

Pawnshop receipts for stolen jewellery were found on the duo and investigations led police to shops in Puchong and Sunway where they recovered some of the stolen items.

The two gang members, aged 34 and 31, were found to be a couple who had worked in show business, including playing extras in the hit Indian movie Kabali, which was primarily shot in Malaysia.

They also tested positive for drugs, according to ACP Shafien.

On Oct 19, another gang member, an Indonesian in his 40s, was caught.

Police found more stolen items at his home in Puchong Utama, and discovered that he was a "fence", reselling the stolen goods after buying them from the other two members.

The gang has been implicated in 11 cases and their victims have been called in to identify the stolen items.

Police believe that the gang has been active since April and their modus operandi is to break into homes that are empty.

ACP Shafien added that the items recovered so far valued at RM60,000 and included jewellery and electronics.
