Wife-beating policeman arrested after video goes viral

Location: Segamat
Date: Unknown.

A 29-year-old policeman from Felda Redong, depicted hitting his wife in a video, has been arrested.

Segamat district police chief Superintendent Kamil Sukarmi said a police report was lodged over the incident, and police are investigating the case under domestic violence, as well as for voluntarily causing hurt.

"I have reminded my subordinates and all police personnel not to break the law, and this includes domestic matters.

“Police will not compromise on this and action will be taken against anyone, even if he is serving in the police force," he said in a statement.

Kamil said investigations are ongoing and that the policeman in question would be transferred from the Felda Redong police beat base to the state police contingent camp with immediate effect.

It could not be immediately established why the policeman had hit his 25-year-old wife.

A woman had recorded the incident and uploaded the video on Facebook on April 1, which had gone viral. In the video, a young woman was seen slouching as she made her way into the beat base, with the aid of an older woman, believed to be her mother.

The older woman was seen carrying a baby. In the 2:50-second video, the policeman was seen slapping the victim. Screams were also heard in the recording after they had gone into the beat base.
