Lawyer pleads not guilty to accepting RM18,000 in bribes



JOHOR BARU --- A lawyer pleaded not guilty at a Sessions Court here to two charges of accepting almost RM18,000 from two defendants in a civil suit in which he was acting for the plantiff.

Ibrahim Haikal Razak, 32, who was supposed to represent an educational company in the civil suit, was accused of accepting the money as an inducement to settle the matter.

In the first charge, he was alleged to have accepted RM7,600 from a 33-year-old woman.

He was also accused of accepting RM10,325.80 from another 35-year-old woman. Ibrahim Haikal was said to have accepted the money at a popular fast food restaurant in Jalan Pendekar 17, Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, in Skudai on Jan 24, 2014, and at an outlet in Jalan Daya Utama, Taman Daya, on Feb 8, 2014.

He was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code with criminal breach of trust, which is pu­nishable by up to 20 years in prison, whipping and a fine.

Ibrahim Haikal pleaded not guilty before judge Kamaruddin Jamsun who set bail at RM15,000 with one surety and fixed April 27 for mention.

DPP Safiah Abd Aziz prosecu­ted the case with the accused represented by Anwar Raof.
