Single mum facing 108 charges of cheating housebuyers

BALIK PULAU --- A 53-year-old unemployed single mother was calm and composed as she was slapped with 108 charges of cheating at a magistrate’s court.

Siti Aishah Ismail (pic) pleaded not guilty to all the counts of duping people into banking in various sums of money into her account last year.

She had allegedly promised to get them low-cost homes in return.

Charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, she faces a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, or both if found guilty of each count.

The woman, who is from Bayan Lepas, was represented by counsel Mohd Imran Mohd Farok.

Approached outside the court later yesterday, DPP Shafiq Mahadi said “a lot of money” was involved but did not reveal the amount.

Magistrate Nur Azzuin Abdul Moati fixed April 12 for mention.

On Dec 1 last year, Siti Aishah claimed trial to 20 other charges of cheating a woman after promising to get her a low-cost house and a low-cost shoplot.

The victim was allegedly promised a house in Idaman Seroja Tingkat 2, Sungai Ara, and a shoplot that did not exist.

About RM28,000 was deposited into Siti’s bank account by the victim between Sept 3 and Oct 14 last year, it was alleged.
