Police bust 2 smuggling syndicates worth RM2.14m

KUALA LUMPUR --- Police busted two drug smuggling syndicates when they nabbed four men and two women, including five Africans, in a series of special operations in the Klang Valley on Friday and Monday.

Operatives from the federal police Narcotics Department and their Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) also seized 14.13 kilograms of methamphetamine worth RM2.13 million during the operations in Taman Usahawan Kepong, Taman Perindustrian Tasik Perdana in Puchong and Taman Serdang Perdana in Seri Kembangan.

Narcotics Department deputy director Datuk Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim said initial investigations showed that the syndicates had the drugs smuggled from Africa through China using sea cargo services.

He said the syndicates tried to mask the illegal substances by hiding them inside laptop chargers and steel water filters.

"In the first raid about 11.45am on Friday, police raided a house in Taman Usahawan Kepong where two Nigerian men aged 24 and 28 were arrested. The raiding team also seized 13.2kg of methamphetamine worth RM2 million hidden inside water filters.

Following the arrests, police carried out a subsequent raid on another house in the same area, where they nabbed an African woman, aged 30. On Monday, police busted another syndicate when a 33-year-old Malaysian woman was arrested.

The woman, believed to be a drug mule, was arrested as soon as she picked up 928 grams of methamphetamine from a courier company in Taman Perindustrian Tasik Perdana.

The woman then led police to a house in Taman Serdang Perdana where a Nigerian man and an Ugandan woman was arrested.

Dzurani was speaking to reporters at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman, here, earlier today.

The cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1957.
