Thieves use excavator to steal ATMs

KUALA SELANGOR ---Two automated teller machines (ATMs) were stolen after thieves broke into a bank using an excavator at Jalan Besar in Bestari Jaya this morning.

The incident at about 5am was discovered when a person alerted police that the premises had been broken into and the suspect(s) fled the scene on a four-wheel drive.

Kuala Selangor OCPD Assistant Commissioner Ruslan Abdullah said police are trying to identify the owner of an excavator that was left at the scene.

"The Selangor police contingent forensic unit has assisted us in picking up seven fingerprints from the crime scene," he said, adding that the losses were being determined by the bank.

The theft came a few days after a failed attempt by a group of thieves to steal an RHB Bank ATM which was placed in front of a factory at Jalan Kebun in Shah Alam.

The thieves had dragged the ATM using cables on the road but abandoned at the roadside about 1km from the factory.
