Tawau Police Crack Snatch Theft Case Within 24 Hours

TAWAU --- Police solved a snatch theft case in less than 24 hours after nabbing two men, believed to have snatched a woman's mobile phone at a bus terminal, here, at noon yesterday.

Tawau police chief, ACP Fadil Marsus said the men, aged 26 and 36, were arrested at two separate locations after one of them was tracked down by police to the Tawau airport area.

"Police detected one of the suspects via signal from the woman's mobile phone which showed the location of the suspect in the airport area," he said in a statement, here, today.

Fadil said police arrived at the airport and detected the Myvi used in the snatch theft before proceeding to nab the suspect.

He said the investigation on the first suspect led police to the arrest of the second suspect in a room on the first floor of a shophouse at about 2.05 am, not far from the snatch theft scene.

"As soon as police identified themselves, the suspect suddenly lunged at a policeman with a knife but he was quickly overpowered."

Fadil said based on the police report, the victim was approached by someone in a Myvi who pretended to ask for a man named "Ramli" at about 12.40 pm.

However, before the woman could answer, the suspect snatched the victim's mobile phone and drove off.
