Milo thieves beat up Bangladeshi shop owner

SUBANG JAYA --- Two men robbed a convenience store and assaulted its owner in Jalan PJS 11/2, Bandar Sunway here.

In the Wednesday incident, the two men attempted to leave the store without paying for 12 packets of Milo refill packs and became violent when the 39-year-old Bangladeshi shop owner stopped them.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli said the Bangladeshi was manning the store alone when the two men entered the premises at around 7.15pm.

"The duo put the Milo packets into a sling bag and wanted to leave without paying for them.

"The shop owner tried to stop them but was struck on the head with a hammer taken from the shelf," he explained.

One of suspects was apprehended by passers-by as he attempted to flee the scene. Unfortunately, his accomplice managed to escape.

ACP Yahaya said the 21-year-old suspect has four criminal records for theft and drug-related offences.

The suspect will be remanded until February 1 to facilitate investigations.

ACP Yahaya commended the passers-by for taking swift action against the culprits and urged the remaining accomplice to surrender himself to the police.

The shop owner was treated at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for his injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing injury during a robbery.
