Mentally ill man sent to Hospital Bahagia for killing son

TAIPING --- The High Court here today ordered an ex-serviceman to be sent to Hospital Bahagia Hulu Kinta in Ipoh after he was found to be mentally unsound when he killed his son two years ago.

Judicial Commissioner Mohamed Zaini Mazlan had earlier found Abdul Harif Mohamad, 48, guilty for murdering his eldest son Ahmad Solehin. Solehin, 21, was a slow learner and according to facts, he died of "asphyxiation secondary to ligature strangulation".

Police also found a rubber cord that was used by Harif to strangulate his son in his room.

Harif committed the crime at their home at Lot 7839, Jalan Terusan, Simpang 5, Parit Buntar between 5.30am and 7.30am on Dec 9, 2014. Zaini ordered Harif to be detained at the mental hospital at the pleasure of the Sultan of Perak.

Harif was represented by counsel Rajit Singh while Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Amril Johari prosecuted.
