Police seek public help to solve brutal murder case

SIBU - Mukah police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau called on the public to provide them with information to help them solve the brutal murder of a grocer in Selangau last Saturday.

He said the police were very concerned with the violent crime and were going all out to solve it. He said they had not arrested the murderers yet but had launched a manhunt, adding they were also arranging for a post mortem to determine the cause of death of the grocer.

In the cold-blooded murder on Saturday, Mukah police said the robbers had chopped the right arm of 53-year-old grocer in the store room on a floor above his shop, nearly severing it. When the police arrived, they found the arm hanging only by the skin.

Yak also suffered multiple cuts on his left arm. Yak had left his shop to go to his storeroom at 8pm with his waist pouch containing RM10,000.

His wife called him from the shop at 9.30pm, but the call was not picked up. She went upstairs and found him on a blood-soaked mattress with multiple slash wounds. From CCTV footages, the police saw two men following Yak to the store room.

Ten minutes later, one man walked out with blood on him, carrying a knife and Yak’s waist pouch. The police found the knife in a drain near Yak’s van.
